The AM243x is a new industrial-grade product series in the Sitara high-performance microcontroller lineup. The AM243x devices are built for industrial applications that require a combination of real-time communication and processing, such as motor drives and remote I/O modules. The AM243x series offers scalable performance through up to four Cortex-R5F MCUs, one Cortex-M4F, and two Sitara TSN-enabled Gigabit PRU_ICSSG instances. The AM243x SoC architecture is designed to provide excellent real-time performance through high-performance Arm Cortex-R5F cores, tightly coupled memory banks, configurable SRAM partitions, and dedicated low-latency paths to peripherals, enabling fast data movement in and out of the SoC. This deterministic architecture allows the AM243x to handle strict control loops in servo drives, while peripherals such as FSI, GPMC, ECAP, PWM, and encoder interfaces help enable a variety of different architectures in these systems. The SoC provides flexible industrial communication capabilities, including complete protocol stacks for EtherCAT targets, PROFINET devices, EtherNet/IP adapters, and IO-Link controllers. The PRU_ICSSG further provides the capabilities required for Gigabit and TSN technology-based protocols. In addition, the PRU_ICSSG also supports other interfaces, including UART interfaces, Δ-Σ decimation filters, and absolute encoder interfaces. Functional safety features can be enabled through the integrated Cortex-M4F and its dedicated peripherals, all of which can be isolated from the rest of the SoC. The AM243x also supports secure boot.
