The bq2404x series of devices are highly integrated lithium-ion and lithium-polymer linear charger devices designed for space-constrained portable applications. The device is powered by a USB port or an AC adapter. The high input voltage range with input overvoltage protection supports low-cost, unregulated adapters. The bq2404x has a single power output for battery charging. If the average system load cannot fully charge the battery within the 10-hour safety timer period, the system load can be connected in parallel with the battery. Battery charging goes through the following three stages: regulation, constant current, and constant voltage. During all charging stages, the internal control loop monitors the IC junction temperature, and when it exceeds the internal temperature threshold, it reduces the charging current. The charger power stage and charging current sensing function are fully integrated. This charger features high-precision current and voltage regulation loop functions, charging status indication, and charging termination function. Both the pre-charge current and termination current thresholds can be programmed via external resistors on the bq24040 and bq24045. The fast charge current value can also be programmed via an external resistor.
