The CD4051BM is an 8-channel analog multiplexer/demultiplexer with 3 address select inputs (A0~A2), an active-low enable input (E), 8 independent I/O channels (Y0~Y7), and a common I/O terminal (Z). The device contains 8 bidirectional analog switches, each connecting one of the individual I/O channels (Y0~Y7) to the common I/O terminal (Z). When the enable input (E) is low, the switch selected by the address inputs (A0~A2) is in a low-impedance ON state; when (E) is high, the address inputs are ignored and all switches are in a high-impedance OFF state — the enable input must be used to toggle switch states. The digital control inputs (A0~A2 and E) operate from VDD to VSS, with a supply voltage differential ranging from 3V to 9V. The analog I/O terminals (Y0~Y7 and Z) can swing between VDD (max) and VEE (min), with a maximum VDD-to-VEE differential of 9V. When used as a digital multiplexer, VEE and VSS are typically tied together (e.g., to ground). Typical applications include analog multiplexing/demultiplexing, digital multiplexing, and signal gating. Available in DIP16 and SOP16 packages.
