The LM22670 switching regulator can use a minimum number of external components to provide all the functions required to implement a high-efficiency high-voltage step-down regulator. This regulator is easy to use and integrates a 42V N-channel MOSFET switch, which can provide a load current of up to 3A. It also features excellent line and load regulation and high efficiency (>90%). Voltage mode control provides a short minimum on-time, enabling the widest ratio between the input and output voltages. Internal loop compensation means that users do not have to undertake the tedious task of calculating loop compensation components. This regulator offers two options: a fixed 5V output and an adjustable output voltage. The default switching frequency is set to 500kHz, allowing the use of small external components and providing good transient response. In addition, a single external resistor can be used to adjust the frequency in the range of 200kHz to 1MHz. The internal oscillator can be synchronized to a system clock or the oscillator of other regulators. The precision enable input simplifies regulator control and system power sequencing. In shutdown mode, the regulator's current consumption is only 25μA (typical). The built-in soft-start function (typical value 500μs) saves external components. The LM22670 device also has built-in thermal shutdown and current-limiting functions to prevent the device from accidental overload.
