The LM22677 switching regulator provides all the functions needed to implement a highly efficient, high-voltage step-down regulator with a minimum number of external components. This easy-to-use regulator integrates a 42V N-channel MOSFET switch capable of delivering up to 5A of load current, with excellent line and load regulation and high efficiency (>90%). Voltage-mode control enables a short minimum on-time, allowing the widest ratio between input and output voltages. Internal loop compensation eliminates the tedious task of calculating loop compensation components. The regulator is available in both fixed 5V output and adjustable output voltage options. The default switching frequency is set at 500kHz, enabling the use of small external components while providing good transient response. Frequency can also be adjusted over the range of 200kHz to 1MHz using a single external resistor. The internal oscillator can be synchronized to a system clock or to the oscillator of another regulator. A precision enable input allows optimized regulator control and system power sequencing. In shutdown mode, the regulator draws only 25μA (typical). The LM22677 also incorporates thermal shutdown and current limiting to protect against accidental overload conditions.
