LP3201S is a 1.5MHz fixed-frequency current-mode PWM buck converter. It is ideally suited for portable devices requiring up to 1A of high output current from a single-cell Li-ion battery. The device can also operate at 100% duty cycle in dropout condition to extend battery life in portable systems, while providing extremely low output ripple during light-load operation for noise-sensitive applications. The LP3201S delivers up to 1A output load current over an input voltage range of 2.5V to 6.5V, with output voltage adjustable down to 0.61V. The high switching frequency minimizes external component size while maintaining low switching losses. The internal slope compensation setting allows the device to use smaller inductance values to optimize size and provide efficient operation. The device employs a slope-compensated current-mode architecture. This buck DC-DC converter delivers up to 1A of output current at VIN = 3V. Slope compensation allows the device to remain stable over a wider range of inductance values, enabling the use of smaller inductors (2.2μH to 4.7μH) with lower DCR for higher efficiency. Beyond a small input bypass capacitor, only a small L-C filter is required at the output. The device can be programmed via external feedback to any voltage from 0.61V up to near the input voltage. It uses an internal MOSFET for high efficiency and can generate very low output voltages using an internal 0.6V reference. In dropout, the converter duty cycle increases to 100%, and the output voltage follows the input voltage minus the low RDS(ON) drop of the P-channel high-side MOSFET and the inductor DCR drop. The internal error amplifier and compensation provide excellent transient response, load regulation, and line regulation. Internal soft-start eliminates any output voltage overshoot during enable or when input voltage is applied.
