The LP8756x-Q1 is designed to meet the power management requirements of the latest processors and platforms in various automotive power applications. The device contains four step-down DC/DC converter cores that can be configured as 1 four-phase output, 1 three-phase and 1 single-phase output, 2 two-phase outputs, 1 two-phase and 2 single-phase outputs, or 4 single-phase outputs. The device is controlled by an I2C-compatible serial interface and enable signals. Automatic PWM-to-PFM operation (AUTO mode), combined with automatic phase adding and shedding, maximizes efficiency over a wide output current range. The LP8756x-Q1 supports remote differential voltage sensing for multi-phase outputs to compensate for IR drop between the regulator output and the point-of-load (POL), thereby improving output voltage accuracy. In addition, the switching clock can be forced into PWM mode and synchronized to an external clock to minimize interference. The LP8756x-Q1 supports load current measurement without adding external current-sense resistors. The device also supports programmable startup and shutdown delays and sequencing synchronized to the enable signals. These sequences may include GPIO signals for controlling external regulators, load switches, and processor resets. During startup and voltage transitions, the device controls the output slew rate to minimize output voltage overshoot and inrush current.
