The LT8640/LT8640-1 step-down regulators employ a Silent Switcher architecture designed to minimize EMI/EMC emissions while delivering high efficiency at frequencies up to 3MHz. Their monolithic construction is assembled in a 3mm x 4mm QFN package with integrated power switches and all necessary circuitry, resulting in a solution with a minimal PCB footprint. An ultralow quiescent current of 2.5μA (with the output in full regulation) enables applications requiring very high efficiency at very light load currents. Excellent transient response is maintained at any load (from zero to full current), with output voltage ripple below 10mVP-P. The LT8640/LT8640-1 achieve high VIN to low VOUT conversion at high frequency with a fast minimum top switch on-time of 35ns. The devices operate safely under overload conditions, even with a saturated inductor. Essential features are built in and straightforward to use: an open-drain PG pin signals when the output is within regulation. The SYNC/MODE pin selects among Burst Mode operation, spread spectrum mode, synchronization to an external clock, and pulse skipping (LT8640) or forced continuous mode (LT8640-1). Soft-start and tracking functions are accessible via the TR/SS pin. An accurate enable threshold is set using the EN/UV pin, while a resistor at the RT pin sets the switching frequency.
