The ML51 is a performance-enhanced 80C51 microcontroller based on an 8051 core with embedded Flash, operating in 1T mode with a fully compatible standard 8051 instruction set. The ML51 operates at up to 24MHz over a wide voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V, and contains up to 64/32/16/8K bytes of Flash, referred to as APROM, for program code storage. The ML51 Flash memory supports In-Application Programming (IAP), allowing program code to be updated via on-chip firmware. A portion of the Flash can optionally be configured as data Flash for IAP programming, and read by IAP or MOVC instructions. The ML51 includes an additional configurable Flash area of up to 4/32/1Kbytes, referred to as LDROM, where boot code typically resides for executing In-System Programming (ISP). To facilitate programming and verification in mass production, the Flash can be programmed and read by a parallel programmer or via Nu-Link In-Circuit Programming (ICP). Once programmed and verified, the program code can be protected from being read by any external programming tool through a Flash lock mechanism. The ML51 provides a rich set of peripherals, including 256 bytes of SRAM, 4/2/1K bytes of auxiliary RAM (XRAM), up to 43 general-purpose I/Os, two 16-bit timers/counters Timer0/1, one 16-bit timer Timer2, one timer with a three-channel input capture module, a Watchdog Timer (WDT), a self-wake-up timer (WKT), a 16-bit auto-reload timer Timer3 for general-purpose use or baud rate generation, two UARTs with frame error detection and automatic address recognition, two ISO7816 smart card interfaces, two SPI, two I2C, 12 enhanced PWM output channels with dead-band control, two analog comparators, 8-channel shared interrupts across all I/O port pins, and a 12-bit ADC with a sampling rate of 500ksps. There are a total of 30 interrupt sources with 4 priority levels. The ML51 is equipped with 4 clock sources and supports software-controlled instantaneous clock switching. These four clock sources include two external clock sources (HXT, LXT), a 38.4kHz internal oscillator, and a 24MHz internal high-precision (±2%) oscillator. The ML51 provides additional power monitoring and management modules, such as power-on reset and 7-level low-voltage detection, delivering stable power on/off sequencing for high-reliability system designs. The ML51 microcontroller offers 3 power modes to reduce power consumption: low-power run mode, low-power idle mode, and power-down mode. In low-power run mode, power consumption can be reduced to 10uA at 38.4kHz LRC. In low-power idle mode, CPU operation is suspended by holding the program counter. If power consumption does not exceed 15uA, no program code is fetched and the device operates in low-power idle mode. Power-down mode stops the entire system clock, reducing leakage current to a minimum of less than 1uA. The ML51 system clock can also be slowed down by a software clock divider, allowing flexibility between execution performance and power consumption. With its 1T 8051 high-performance core, low-power performance, and a rich set of carefully designed peripherals, the ML51 is well-suited for low-power, battery-powered devices, general appliances, home appliances, and motor control systems.
