The MSP430FR215x and MSP430FR235x microcontrollers (MCUs) both belong to the MSP430™ MCU Value Line, a product line of ultra-low-power and low-cost devices. This product line is suitable for detection and measurement applications. The MSP430FR235x MCU integrates four configurable signal chain modules called Smart Analog Combinations. Each combination can be used as a 12-bit DAC or a configurable programmable gain operational amplifier to meet the specific needs of the system, while reducing the BOM and PCB size. The device also includes a 12-bit SAR ADC and two comparators. Both the MSP430FR215x and MSP430FR235x MCUs support an extended temperature range from –40°C to 105°C. Therefore, industrial applications at higher temperatures can benefit from the FRAM data logging capabilities of these devices. This extended temperature range enables developers to meet the requirements of applications such as smoke detectors, sensor transmitters, and circuit breakers. The MSP430FR215x and MSP430FR235x MCUs feature a powerful 16-bit RISC CPU, 16-bit registers, and a constant generator, which help achieve maximum coding efficiency. A digitally controlled oscillator (DCO) typically allows the device to wake up from a low-power mode to an active mode in less than 10µs. The MSP430 ultra-low-power (ULP) FRAM microcontroller platform combines unique embedded FRAM with an overall ultra-low-power system architecture, enabling system designers to improve performance while reducing energy consumption. FRAM technology combines the low-power, fast write, flexibility, and durability of RAM with the non-volatility of flash memory. The MSP430FR215x and MSP430FR235x MCUs are supported by a broad hardware and software ecosystem and come with reference designs and code examples to help you quickly start your design.
