RS29617 is a BiCMOS dual bidirectional buffer for I2C bus and SMBus systems. In mixed-mode applications, the device provides bidirectional voltage level translation (up-translation and down-translation) between low voltages (as low as 0.8V) and higher voltages (2.2V to 5.5V). Even during level translation, the device extends I2C and similar bus systems without degrading performance. The RS29617 buffers the serial data (SDA) and serial clock (SCL) signals on the I2C bus, allowing two 550pF buses to be connected in I2C applications. The device can also be used to separate two sections of a bus by voltage and capacitance.
