The device implements current mode control with internal slope compensation to reduce component count. The TPS5402 also features a light-load pulse skipping mode, which reduces power loss from the input supply powering the system under light load conditions. The converter's switching frequency can be set between 50kHz and 1.1MHz using a single external resistor. Frequency spread spectrum operation is incorporated to reduce EMI. Cycle-by-cycle current limiting with frequency foldback protects the IC under overload conditions.
