The TPS55288 is a synchronous four-switch buck-boost converter that regulates the output voltage to a value equal to, higher than, or lower than the input voltage. The TPS55288 operates over a wide input voltage range of 2.7V to 36V and can provide output voltages from 0.8V to 22V to support a wide variety of applications. The TPS55288 integrates two 16A MOSFETs, with the boost bridge arm achieving a balance between solution size and efficiency. By programming the output voltage and output current limit via the I2C interface, the TPS55288 is fully compliant with the USB PD specification. The TPS55288 can deliver 100W of power from a 12V input voltage. The TPS55288 employs an average current mode control scheme. The switching frequency is programmable via an external resistor from 200 kHz to 2.2 MHz and can be synchronized to an external clock. The TPS55288 also offers a spread spectrum option to further minimize peak EMI. The TPS55288 provides output overvoltage protection, average inductor current limiting, cycle-by-cycle peak current limiting, and output short-circuit protection. The TPS55288 also ensures safe operation under sustained overload conditions through optional output current limiting and discontinuous mode protection. The TPS55288 can use small inductors and small capacitors at high switching frequencies. This device is available in a 4.0mm×3.5mm QFN package.
