Overview
TPS56C230 is a high-efficiency synchronous buck converter with integrated FETs. It features low standby current and requires minimal external components, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. The converter employs D-CAP3 control, achieving fast transient response and excellent line and load regulation with internal compensation only. A dedicated circuit supports low-ESR output capacitors such as dedicated polymer capacitors and ultra-low ESR ceramic capacitors. The MODE pin allows selection of Eco-mode or FCCM mode for light-load operation. Eco-mode maintains high efficiency during light-load operation, while FCCM mode maintains low output ripple under light load. The device supports both internal and external soft-start time options, with a fixed internal soft-start time of 1.2ms; a longer soft-start time can be achieved by connecting an external capacitor to the SS pin. The TPS56C230 integrates a power-good indicator and output discharge functionality, providing comprehensive protection including OVP, UVP, OCP, OTP, and UVLO. It is available in a 20-pin 3.0mm×3.0mm HotRod package, rated for a junction temperature range of -40°C to 125°C.
