The TPS61040/41 is a high-frequency boost converter designed for small to medium LCD bias supplies and white LED backlight supplies. The device can generate output voltages up to 28V from two-cell NiMH/NiCd batteries or a single-cell Li-ion battery. It can also be used for standard 3.3V/5V to 12V power conversion. The TPS61040/41 operates at switching frequencies up to 1MHz, enabling the use of small external components, including ceramic and tantalum output capacitors. Combined with a slim SON package, the TPS61040/41 provides a very compact overall solution size. The TPS61040 features an internal switch current limit of 400mA, while the TPS61041 features a 250mA switch current limit, delivering lower output voltage ripple and allowing the use of smaller inductors in lower-power applications. The low quiescent current (28μA typical), combined with an optimized control scheme, enables the device to operate at very high efficiency across the full load current range.
