Overview

The TPS61240-Q1 is a high-efficiency synchronous boost DC/DC converter optimized for products powered by three alkaline/NiCd/NiMH cells or a single-cell Li-Ion/Li-Polymer battery. The TPS61240-Q1 supports output currents up to 450mA. The TPS61240-Q1 has an input valley current limit of 500mA. The TPS61240-Q1 provides a fixed 5V (typical) output voltage over an input voltage range of 2.3V to 5.5V, supporting batteries with a wider voltage range. During shutdown, the load is completely disconnected from the battery. The TPS61240-Q1 boost converter is based on a quasi-constant on-time valley current mode control scheme. When disabled, the TPS61240-Q1 presents high impedance at the output voltage pin. This makes the device suitable for applications where a regulated output bus needs to be driven by another power source while the TPS61240-Q1 is disabled. During light load, the device automatically enters pulse-skipping mode to achieve maximum efficiency at minimal quiescent current. In shutdown mode, current consumption is reduced to below 1μA. The TPS61240-Q1 supports the use of small inductors and capacitors, enabling a compact solution size. The TPS61240-Q1 is available in a 2mm×2mm WSON package.
