Overview

The TPS61290x is a 5.5V, 11A synchronous boost converter with bypass mode, I2C interface, and fast transient response. The TPS61290x provides power supply design for products powered by nickel-rich, silicon-anode, lithium-ion, or lithium iron phosphate batteries, with a voltage range optimized for single-cell battery portable applications such as smartphones or POS terminals. The device can be used as a high-power pre-regulator to extend battery run time and overcome input current and voltage limitations of powered systems. It features a wide input voltage range of 1.8V to 5.5V, with output voltage programmable up to 5.5V via I2C. The TPS61290 has a default output voltage of 3.4V, while the TPS612901 has default output voltages of 5V (VSEL = low) and 5.25V (VSEL = high). During operation, when the battery is in a good state of charge, the TPS61290x operates in bypass mode, connecting the battery to the power system through a bypass FET; if the battery enters a lower state of charge and its voltage falls below the required minimum system voltage, the device seamlessly transitions to boost mode to utilize the full battery capacity. The TPS61290x is available in a 16-ball YBG package, enabling a very compact design footprint.
