The TPS65400-Q1 is an integrated power management unit (PMU) optimized for applications requiring small form factor and high power conversion efficiency, enabling compact, space-constrained devices to operate in high-temperature environments without cooling. This device achieves high system-level energy efficiency through single-stage conversion from an intermediate power distribution bus using an optimized regulator combination. The TPS65400-Q1 implements a PMBus/I²C-compatible digital interface. This interface allows real-time adjustment of regulated voltages, power sequencing, phase interleaving, switching frequency, and operating status readback, enabling the host processor to optimize system performance. The TPS65400-Q1 contains four high-current step-down switching regulators (SW1, SW2, SW3, and SW4) with integrated FETs. These switching regulators are designed to power high-current digital circuits such as processors, FPGAs, ASICs, memory, and digital I/O. SW1 and SW2 support 4A, while SW3 and SW4 support 2A. The switching frequency of each regulator is independently adjustable up to 2.2MHz. Each switch features programmable current limiting, allowing optimized inductor ratings for specific applications that do not require maximum current capability. The TPS65400-Q1 can be powered from a single input voltage rail between 4.5V and 18V, making it ideal for applications powered from a 5V or 12V intermediate power distribution bus. Power sequencing requirements can be met using individual enable pins or by programming sequences into the on-board EEPROM via the I²C bus. Output voltage is set through an external resistor network, with VREF programmable from 0.6V to 1.87V in 10mV increments. All control and status information is accessible via the PMBus-compatible I²C bus. The TPS65400-Q1 offers extensive flexibility, providing comprehensive monitoring and control via the I²C bus while also supporting voltage regulation and external component-based programmability for systems that do not use I²C.
