As the demand for animations in the automotive lighting field continues to grow, individual control of LEDs is essential. Therefore, LED drivers with digital interfaces are crucial for effectively driving pixel-controlled lighting applications. In external lighting, various lighting functions are often located on different PCBs interconnected by non-on-board wires. Traditional single-ended interfaces struggle to meet strict EMC requirements. By using the industry-standard CAN physical layer, the UART-based flexible wire interface of the TPS929120-Q1 can easily achieve long-distance non-on-board communication without affecting EMC performance. The TPS929120-Q1 is a 12-channel, 40V high-side LED driver that can control 8-bit output current and 12-bit PWM duty cycle. This device features LED open-circuit, ground short-circuit, and single-LED short-circuit diagnostic functions, meeting a variety of regulation requirements. When the connection to the MCU is lost, the configurable watchdog can automatically set the fail-safe state. With the programmable EEPROM, the TPS929120-Q1 can be flexibly configured for different application scenarios.
