The TPSM82480 is a synchronous step-down DC/DC converter module suitable for low-profile point-of-load power supplies. The input power range of 2.4V to 5.5V enables it to operate either through a typical 3.3V or 5V interface power supply or via a backup circuit as low as 2.4V. The maximum output current can reach up to 6A, continuously supplied by a two-phase power supply with 3A per phase. It can operate out of phase, significantly reducing the pulsed current noise. The TPSM82480 can automatically enter the power-saving mode under ultra-light loads and maintain high efficiency. It includes an automatic phase add/drop function, where one or two phases are used depending on the actual load conditions. The power-saving mode can be turned off through the "Mode" function. The device can provide a power-good signal and adjustable soft start. In addition, the device also has a temperature-normal signal to indicate an excessively high internal temperature. The output voltage can be changed to a preselected value through the VSEL pin. The TPSM82480 can operate in a 100% duty cycle mode. The TPSM82480 is a high-efficiency synchronous switched-mode step-down converter module based on a two-phase peak current control topology. It is designed for applications with the smallest solution size and low profile, converting an input voltage of 2.4V to 5.5V into a lower output voltage of 0.6V to 5.5V. While an outer voltage loop sets the regulation threshold for the inner current loop based on the actual VOUT level, the inner current loop regulates the actual peak inductor current level for every switching cycle. The regulation network is internally compensated. While the ON-time is determined by the duty cycle, inductance, and cycle peak current, the switching frequency of typically 2.2 MHz is set by a predicted OFF-time. The device features a Power Save Mode (PSM) to maintain high conversion efficiency over the entire load current range. The TPSM82480 is a two-phase converter that distributes the load among the phases. Identical in construction, the second-phase control is connected to the first phase with an adaptive delay. Both phases use the same regulation threshold and cycle-by-cycle peak current setpoint. This ensures phase-shifted and current-balanced operation. By leveraging the advantages of the two-phase topology, a continuous output current of 6A is provided with high performance and the smallest possible solution size.
