HT7219A/HT7221A are compact, serially interfaced common-cathode display drivers that interface microprocessors to up to 8-digit seven-segment numeric LED displays, bar-graph displays, or 64 individual LEDs. The devices include an on-chip BCD code-B decoder, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and an 8×8 static RAM to store each digit. A single external resistor sets the segment current for all LEDs. The HT7221A is compatible with SPI, QSPI, and Microwire, and features slew-rate-limited segment drivers to reduce EMI. A convenient 3-wire serial interface connects to all common microprocessors. Individual digits can be addressed and updated without rewriting the entire display. The HT7219A/HT7221A also allow the user to select either code-B decoding or no-decode on a per-digit basis. The devices include a 150μA low-power shutdown mode, analog and digital brightness control, a scan-limit register that allows the user to display 1 to 8 digits, and a test mode that forces all LEDs on.
