LM1084 is a positive-output low-dropout three-terminal linear voltage regulator with a 1.5V dropout voltage at 5A output current. The LM1084 is available in both fixed and adjustable output versions. Fixed output voltages are 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5.0V, while the adjustable version offers 1.5% voltage accuracy. The LM1084 features internal over-temperature protection and current limiting circuits, making it suitable for a wide range of electronic applications. It is a low-dropout regulator whose pass element consists of an NPN transistor driven by a PNP transistor, with the dropout voltage defined as: V_DROP = V_BE + V_SAT. The LM1084 is available in fixed and adjustable versions with output voltages of 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V, 3.3V, and 5.0V. An on-chip thermal shutdown circuit provides overload and over-temperature protection. To ensure stability of the LM1084, a minimum 22μF tantalum output capacitor is required. The capacitance value may vary with output load and temperature depending on the application, as linear regulator stability typically decreases with increasing output current.
