Overview
MG78LxxA is a fixed-voltage (3.0V/3.3V/5.0V/) three-terminal integrated voltage regulator suitable for a wide range of applications. Its excellent internal current limiting and thermal shutdown characteristics make it particularly well-suited for overload conditions. When used as a replacement for conventional Zener diode-resistor networks, output impedance is significantly improved while bias current is greatly reduced. With adequate heatsinking, the MG78LxxA can deliver 120mA output current. Current limiting is included to constrain peak output current to a safe level, providing safe operating area protection for the output transistor to limit internal power dissipation. If internal power dissipation becomes excessive for the heatsink provided, the thermal shutdown circuit prevents IC overheating.
