The production process is tightly controlled and follows an extensive set of instructions to ensure repeatability. Cermet film layers and glass cover coats are deposited on high-grade (Al₂O₃) ceramic substrates with prefabricated inner contacts on both sides. A special laser is used for smooth fine-trimming of the resistive layer to the target value without damaging the ceramic. Special processes ensure long-term operation of the resistors in harsh environments (sulfurous atmospheres). The resistive element is covered by a protective coating for electrical, mechanical, and climatic protection. Leads receive a final pure tin over nickel plating. The results of the defined production process are verified by extensive testing procedures performed on 100% of individual chip resistors. Only conforming products are loaded directly into carrier tapes in accordance with IEC 60286-3, Type 1a and Type 2a. These resistors are suitable for automatic SMD assembly systems. They are compatible with automatic wave soldering, reflow soldering, or vapor phase soldering as specified in IEC 61760-1. The packaging materials are resistant to all cleaning solvents commonly used in the electronics industry, including alcohols, esters, and aqueous solutions. If conformal coatings, potting compounds, and their associated processes are used, qualification by appropriate means should be performed to ensure long-term stability of the complete system. These resistors are RoHS compliant, and the pure tin plating makes them compatible with both lead-free (Pb-free) and leaded soldering processes. Solderability is valid for 2 years after production or requalification. The permitted storage time is 20 years. Extensive testing has demonstrated the plating's resistance to tin whisker growth.
