The ’AC86 devices are quadruple 2-input exclusive-OR gates. The devices perform the Boolean function Y = A⊕B or Y = A(overline)B + AB(overline) in positive logic. A common application is as a true/complement element. If one of the inputs is low, the other input is reproduced in true form at the output. If one of the inputs is high, the signal on the other input is reproduced inverted at the output.

Applications

• Usable as true/complement element: when one input is LOW, output faithfully reproduces the other input; when one input is HIGH, output presents the inverted form of the other input
• Usable as logic identity element: output is active-LOW when all inputs are at the same logic level
• Usable as even-parity element: output is active-LOW when an even number of inputs (0 or 2) are active
• Usable as odd-parity element: output is active-HIGH when an odd number of inputs (only 1 of the two inputs) is active
