TEA2016AAT is a digitally configurable LLC and PFC combined controller for high-efficiency resonant power supplies. It integrates both LLC controller functionality and a PFC controller operating in DCM and QR modes. With the TEA2016AAT, a complete resonant power supply can be built with a simple design and a minimal component count. The TEA2016AAT is available in a thin narrow-body SO16 package. The TEA2016AAT digital architecture is based on a high-speed configurable hardware state machine, ensuring highly reliable real-time performance. During power supply development, numerous operating and protection settings of the LLC and PFC controllers can be adjusted by loading new settings into the device to meet specific application requirements. These configurations can be fully protected against unauthorized copying of proprietary TEA2016AAT configuration content. Unlike conventional resonant topologies, the TEA2016AAT employs a low-power mode to maintain very high efficiency at light loads. This mode operates in the power region between continuous switching (also referred to as high-power mode) and burst mode. Since the TEA2016AAT regulates the system output voltage via the bulk capacitor voltage, it provides accurate information about the power delivered to the output. The measured output power determines the operating mode (burst mode, low-power mode, or high-power mode). The transition levels between different operating modes can be easily programmed into the device. The TEA2016AAT incorporates comprehensive protections including OTP, OCP, OVP, OPP, OLP, and CMR. All these protections can be independently and accurately configured by programming the parameters into the device. The device integrates low-voltage and high-voltage silicon technologies for high-voltage startup, integrated drivers, level shifters, protection circuits, and zero-voltage switching assurance circuitry. The combination of TEA2016AAT/TEA1995T enables straightforward design of highly efficient and reliable power supplies delivering 90 W to 500 W with a very low external component count. The system achieves very low no-load input power (< 75 mW; entire system including the TEA2016AAT/TEA1995T combination) and maintains high efficiency from minimum to maximum load. The power supply complies with energy efficiency regulations including Energy Star, U.S. DOE, EU Ecodesign Directive, EU Code of Conduct, and various other guidelines. As a result, any auxiliary low-power supply can be omitted.
