XBL29302 is a high-current, low-dropout regulator utilizing XBLW's proprietary Super Beta PNP process and PNP pass element. This 3A LDO regulator features a dropout voltage of 300mV to 370mV (full load) with very low ground current. The device is designed for high-current loads and is equally suited for critical systems requiring low current and low dropout, where dropout voltage and ground current are key parameters. The regulator offers ±2% total accuracy (over temperature, line, and load regulation) with fast transient recovery from input voltage surges and output load current variations. The XBL29302 provides an adjustable output, with voltage settable from 1.24V to 25V via two external resistors. The device also incorporates comprehensive protection against overcurrent faults, input polarity reversal, pin insertion reversal, and over-temperature operation. The XBL29302 A includes a TTL/CMOS logic enable (EN) pin for regulator shutdown. When this function is not used, EN can be connected to IN (input) to configure the device for continuous operation. The XBL29302 is a high-performance LDO regulator suited for all medium- to high-current voltage regulation applications. Its typical 560mV dropout voltage at full load makes it particularly valuable in battery-powered systems and as a high-efficiency noise filter in post-regulator applications. Unlike earlier NPN pass transistor designs — where minimum dropout voltage is limited by the base-emitter voltage drop and collector-emitter saturation voltage — the PNP output's dropout performance is limited only by the low VCE saturation voltage. The trade-off for low dropout voltage is some variation in base drive requirements. However, the Super Beta PNP process reduces this drive requirement to only 1% of the load current. The XBL29302 regulator is fully protected under fault conditions. Current limiting is linear; output current under overload conditions is constant. Thermal shutdown disables the device when die temperature exceeds the maximum safe operating temperature of +125°C. The regulator's output structure allows voltages exceeding the required output voltage to be applied without generating reverse current. The XBL29302 provides logic-level on/off control. When disabled, the device draws 32μA of current at a maximum input of 26V.
