Overview
AL8841Q is a hysteretic mode DC-DC buck converter designed to efficiently drive single or multiple series-connected LEDs from a supply voltage higher than the LED voltage. The device operates from a 4.5V to 40V input supply and provides an externally adjustable output current of up to 1A in the TSOT25 package and up to 1.5A in the MSOP-8EP package. Depending on the supply voltage and external components, the converter can deliver output power of up to 60W. The AL8841Q integrates a power switch and a high-side output current sensing circuit, which uses an external resistor to set the nominal average output current. Dimming can be achieved by applying an external control signal to the CTRL pin. The CTRL pin accepts either a DC voltage signal or a PWM signal. Soft-start time is adjustable via an external capacitor connected from the CTRL pin to ground. Applying 0.3V or lower to the CTRL pin will turn off the power switch. The AL8841Q is available in a thermally enhanced MSOP-8EP package and a compact TSOT25 package.
