The CD4538 is a dual retriggerable/resettable monostable multivibrator. Each multivibrator features a low-active trigger/retrigger input (/nA), a high-active trigger/retrigger input (nB), an overriding low-active direct reset input (/nCD), an output (nQ) and its complementary output (/nQ), and two pins for connecting external timing components C_EXT and R_EXT (nREXT/CEXT and nCEXT, with nCEXT permanently tied to ground). Typical pulse width variation over the specified temperature range is ±0.2%. The multivibrator can be triggered by either the rising or falling edge of the input pulse, and generates precise output pulses with pulse widths ranging from 10μs to infinity. The duration and accuracy of the output pulse are determined by the external timing components C_EXT and R_EXT. The output pulse width (t_W) equals R_EXT × C_EXT. Linear design techniques in LOCMOS (Locally Oxidized CMOS) ensure precise control of the output pulse width. A logic low on the /nCD pin immediately terminates the output pulse. The recommended operating supply voltage V_DD range is 3V to 12V, referenced to V_SS (typically ground). Unused inputs must be connected to V_DD, V_SS, or another input.
