GM3243E is a communication interface IC powered by a 3V/5.5V supply, featuring auto-shutdown/wake-up, high data rate capability, and enhanced ESD protection. All transmitter outputs and receiver inputs are protected to ±15kV via IEC 1000-4-2 air-gap discharge, ±8kV via IEC 1000-4-2 contact discharge, and ±15kV via the Human Body Model. When the RS-232 cable is disconnected or the transmitter of the connected peripheral is disabled, the IC enters a low-power shutdown mode, reducing power consumption without requiring any modifications to existing BIOS or OS. The transceiver employs a proprietary low-dropout transmitter output stage combined with a dual charge pump to achieve true RS-232 performance from a +3.0V to +5.5V supply. The charge pump requires only four small 0.1μF capacitors to operate from a +3.3V supply. The device is guaranteed to operate at data rates up to 250kbps while maintaining RS-232 output levels.
