The HX32xxE series are interface ICs powered by 3V that meet EIA/TIA-232 and CCITT V.28/V.24 communication requirements while satisfying low-power demands. Internally, they include two drivers, two receivers, and a dedicated switched-capacitor voltage converter. The HX3220 features one driver and one receiver. These devices operate from a 3V to 5.5V supply, guaranteeing a data rate of 250kbit/s. ESD protection on all RS-232 I/O pins exceeds ±15kV air discharge and ±8kV contact discharge per EN61000-4-2. The dedicated switched-capacitor voltage converter differs from competing solutions: the HX32xxE employs a patented dual switched-capacitor voltage controller design that delivers robust bipolar voltages, ensuring EIA/RS-232-compliant output even under supply voltage fluctuations. This design comprises an internal regulated oscillator, two-phase clock cycle, regulated MOS switches, fast switching diodes, and switched capacitors. The switched-capacitor bidirectional current generators utilize HX32xxE's proprietary complementary MOS switches and fast switching diodes for intelligent regulation, built on HX32xxE's proprietary high-voltage process technology. The efficiency of these bidirectional current generators far exceeds 70%. Switching frequency is generated by an internal oscillator and regulated by the current load. The switched-capacitor pump design provides a higher negative step-down voltage than the positive boost voltage; load balancing through the current generators achieves balanced voltage control, supplying the IC with a balanced bipolar voltage. The HX32xxE interface product family employs unique proprietary design techniques to deliver higher energy efficiency and a more stable, EIA/RS-232-compliant low-power product line. The HX3220E, HX3221E, HX3222E, and HX3223E feature a low-power shutdown mode controlled by the XPWRSAVE pin. During shutdown, driver outputs and the switched-capacitor voltage converter are disabled, reducing supply current to below 1μA. The HX3221E and HX3223E use the XPWRSAVE circuit to set/reset latches that enable automatic shutdown when the RS-232 cable is disconnected or the peripheral device is powered off, reducing supply drain to 1μA. The device automatically reactivates when the RS-232 cable is reconnected or the peripheral is enabled. HG's RS-232 transceivers incorporate built-in transient voltage suppression circuitry, meeting MIL-STD-883, Human Body Model (HBM), and EN61000-4-2 air/contact discharge tests without external ESD components. The HX32xxE RS-232 transceivers meet and exceed the minimum EN61000-4-2 requirements of ±15kV air discharge and ±8kV contact discharge.
