Overview

The LM386 audio power amplifier is designed primarily for use in low-voltage consumer electronics applications. To minimize external components, the voltage gain is internally set to 20 (26 dB). By adding an external resistor and capacitor between pins 1 and 8, the voltage gain can be adjusted to any value up to 200 (46 dB). The inputs are referenced to ground, and the output is automatically biased to one-half the supply voltage. With a 6 V supply, the quiescent power drain is only 24 mW, making it ideal for battery-powered applications. The device is available in an 8-pin DIP and an 8-pin SOP.
