In smart home applications and other applications equipped with human-machine interaction functions, high-performance RGB LED drivers are essential. LED animation effects (such as blinking, breathing, and chasing) can greatly improve the user experience. Meanwhile, minimizing system noise is also crucial. The LP50xx device is an 18- or 24-channel constant current sink LED driver. The LP50xx device includes integrated color mixing and brightness control. The pre-configured features simplify the software coding process. The integrated 12-bit, 29kHz PWM generator provided for each channel can achieve smooth and clear LED colors and eliminate audible noise. The LP50xx controls each LED output with 12-bit PWM resolution and a 29kHz switching frequency, which helps achieve smooth dimming effects and eliminate audible noise. Independent color mixing and brightness control registers make software coding very simple. When aiming for a fade-in/fade-out type of breathing effect, the global R, G, B group control can significantly reduce the microcontroller load. The LP50xx can also implement the PWM phase shift function to help reduce the input power budget when multiple LEDs are turned on simultaneously. The LP50xx can implement an automatic power-saving mode to achieve ultra-low quiescent current. When all channels are turned off for 30ms, the total power consumption of the device drops to 10μA, which makes the LP50xx device a potential choice for battery-powered end devices.
