Overview

The MAX3080E–MAX3088E are +5.0V-powered RS-485/RS-422 transceivers with ±16kV ESD protection. They feature a failsafe circuit that drives the receiver output to a logic-high state when the receiver inputs are open or shorted, or when all drivers connected to a terminated bus are disabled. All devices support hot-plug capability, eliminating glitch transients on the bus during power-up or hot insertion. The MAX3080E–MAX3088E drivers deliver an exceptionally large output voltage swing (exceeding 2.1V into a 54Ω load), ensuring greater noise margin. The MAX3080E–MAX3085E feature slew-rate-limited drivers that reduce EMI and reflections caused by improperly terminated cables, enabling error-free data transmission at up to 500kbps. The MAX3086E/MAX3087E/MAX3088E drivers are not slew-rate limited, supporting data rates up to 16Mbps. The MAX3082E/MAX3085E/MAX3088E are designed for half-duplex communications; the MAX3080E/MAX3081E/MAX3083E/MAX3084E/MAX3086E/MAX3087E are designed for full-duplex communications. All devices feature 1/8-unit-load receiver input impedance, allowing up to 256 transceivers on the bus. The MAX3081E/MAX3082E/MAX3084E/MAX3085E/MAX3087E/MAX3088E are available in DIP-8, SOP-8, and MSOP-8 packages; the MAX3080E/MAX3083E/MAX3086E are available in DIP-14, SOP-14, and TSSOP-14 packages. These devices are offered in both commercial and industrial temperature grades.
