The SN75176B/SN65176B is a high-speed differential tri-state bus/line transceiver designed to meet the requirements of EIA standard RS-485 with an extended common-mode range of -7V to +12V, suitable for multipoint data transmission. It is also compatible with RS-422. Both driver and receiver outputs feature tri-state capability, with driver outputs maintaining this characteristic across the entire -7V to +12V common-mode range. Excessive internal power dissipation caused by bus contention or fault conditions is handled by a thermal shutdown circuit, which forces the driver outputs into a high-impedance state. DC specifications are guaranteed over a temperature range of 0°C to 70°C and a supply voltage range of 4.75V to 5.25V.
