Overview
The TLC5957 is a 48-channel constant-current sink driver. Each channel features individually adjustable 65,536-step pulse-width modulation (PWM) grayscale (GS) brightness control. The output channels are divided into three groups, each with a 512-step color brightness control (CC) function. CC can adjust the brightness between colors. The maximum current values of all 48 channels can be set through an 8-step global brightness control (BC) function. BC adjusts the brightness deviation between LED drivers. The GS, CC, and BC data can be accessed via a serial interface port. The TLC5957 has an error flag: LED open detection (LOD), which can be read via the serial interface port. Each constant-current output has a pre-charged field-effect transistor (FET), which can eliminate ghosting in multiplexed LED displays and improve display performance. In addition, the TLC5957 has an enhancement circuit to eliminate the caterpillar effect caused by LED open circuits. The TLC5957 has a poker data transmission mode; the GS data length can be configured from 9 bits to 16 bits, depending on the PWM bits in each sub-segment. The poker mode can significantly improve the visual refresh rate of multiplexed applications.
