The TPS7A25 low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator combines a 2.4V to 18V input voltage range with an ultralow quiescent current (IQ). These features help modern appliances meet increasingly stringent energy requirements and extend battery life in portable power solutions. The TPS7A25 is available in both fixed-voltage and adjustable-voltage versions. For greater flexibility or higher output voltages, the adjustable version uses feedback resistors to set the output voltage between 1.24V and 17.64V. Both versions feature 1% output regulation accuracy, enabling precise regulation of microcontroller (MCU) reference voltages. At 300mA, the TPS7A25 LDO has a maximum dropout voltage below 340mV, making it more efficient than standard linear regulators. This maximum dropout voltage enables an efficiency of 92.5% across an input voltage (VIN) of 5.4V to an output voltage (VOUT) of 5.0V. The power good (PG) indicator can be used to hold an MCU in reset until power is stable, or for power sequencing. The PG pin is an open-drain output, making it easy to level-shift for monitoring via a rail other than VOUT. Built-in current limiting and thermal shutdown help protect the regulator during load short circuits or fault conditions.
