Overview

The TPS7A84A is a low-noise, low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator capable of sourcing 3A with a maximum dropout voltage of only 180mV. The device offers two output voltage ranges. The TPS7A8400A output voltage is pin-programmable from 0.8V to 3.95V in 50mV increments and adjustable from 0.8V to 5.15V using an external resistor divider. The TPS7A8401A output voltage is pin-programmable from 0.5V to 2.075V in 25mV increments and adjustable from 0.5V to 5.15V using an external resistor divider. Combining low noise, high PSRR, and high output current capability, the TPS7A84A is ideally suited to power noise-sensitive components in high-speed communications, video, medical, and test and measurement applications. With its high performance in suppressing power supply-induced phase noise and clock jitter, the TPS7A84A is an excellent choice for powering high-performance SerDes, ADCs, DACs, and RF components. Its high performance and output capability of greater than 5V make it particularly well suited for RF amplifier applications. For digital loads requiring low-input, low-output (LILO) voltage operation — such as ASICs, FPGAs, and DSPs — the TPS7A84A delivers exceptional accuracy (0.75% over line, load, and temperature), remote sensing, transient performance, and soft-start capability to ensure outstanding system performance. The versatility of the TPS7A84A makes it suitable for many demanding applications.
