TPT487A is an enhanced RS-485 transceiver that exceeds the TIA/EIA-485-A standard. This device is a single transceiver for balanced communication, featuring ±15-kV IEC ESD protection and a supply voltage range of 3 V to 5.5 V. It also provides the high output voltage and higher data rates (up to 500 Kbps) required for high-speed PROFIBUS applications. The transmitters in this family deliver superior differential output voltage across the 54-Ω load required by RS-485. These 500-Kbps devices feature extremely low bus current, presenting a true "1/8 unit load" to the RS-485 bus. This allows up to 256 transceivers to be connected on a network without repeaters. The transceiver requires a 3 V to 5.5 V supply and provides a minimum differential output voltage of 2.1 V at a 5 V supply. The receiver inputs are "fully fail-safe" designed, ensuring a logic-high output when the receiver inputs are open, shorted, or terminated but undriven. The receiver output features a high drive level (typically >25 mA @ V_OL = 1 V), simplifying the design of optocoupler-isolated interfaces. TPT487A is available in SOP8, MSOP8, and DFN3×3-8 packages with an operating temperature range of -40℃ to 125℃.
