The ADS1220 is a precision 24-bit ADC that integrates multiple features to reduce system cost and component count in small sensor signal measurement applications. The device offers two differential or four single-ended inputs via an input MUX, a low-noise programmable gain amplifier (PGA), two programmable excitation current sources, a voltage reference, an oscillator, a low-side switch, and a precision temperature sensor. The device performs conversions at data rates up to 2000 SPS and is capable of settling within a single cycle. For industrial applications in noisy environments, the digital filter provides simultaneous 50Hz and 60Hz rejection at a 20 SPS data rate. The internal PGA offers gains up to 128V/V, making the ADS1220 well-suited for small sensor signal measurement applications such as RTDs, thermocouples, thermistors, and resistive bridge sensors. The device supports measurement of pseudo-differential or fully differential signals when using the PGA. It can also be configured to disable the internal PGA while still providing high input impedance and gains up to 4V/V for single-ended measurements. Operating in duty-cycle mode with the PGA disabled, power consumption can be as low as 120μA. The ADS1220 is available in a leadless VQFN-16 or TSSOP-16 package, rated for an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
