Overview

The ADS131M08 is an eight-channel, simultaneous-sampling, 24-bit, Δ-Σ ADC with wide dynamic range, low power consumption, and energy-measurement-specific features, making it ideal for energy metering, power metering, and circuit breaker applications. The ADC inputs can be directly connected to resistor divider networks or power transformers for voltage measurement, or to current transformers or Rogowski coils for current measurement. Individual ADC channels can be independently configured for their respective sensor inputs. A low-noise, programmable gain amplifier (PGA) provides gain settings from 1 to 128 to amplify low-level signals. In addition, the device integrates inter-channel phase calibration, offset, and gain calibration registers to help eliminate signal chain errors. The device integrates a low-drift, 1.2V reference to reduce PCB area. Optional cyclic redundancy check (CRC) on data input, data output, and register map ensures communication integrity. The complete analog front end (AFE) is available in a 32-pin TQFP package or a leadless 32-pin WQFN package, rated for an industrial temperature range of –40°C to +125°C.
