Overview
The bq2920x is a secondary overvoltage protection IC for 2-cell series-connected Li-Ion battery packs, integrating a high-accuracy precision overvoltage detection circuit with automatic cell balancing correction. The IC compares the voltage of each cell in a 2-cell series pack against a factory-programmed internal reference voltage. If any cell reaches an overvoltage condition, the OUT pin transitions from low to high. The bq2920x performs voltage-based automatic cell balancing. Cell balancing is initiated when the cell voltage differs from the internal reference voltage by 30mV (nominal) or more, and is terminated when the cell voltage differs from the internal reference voltage by 0mV (nominal). The cell balancing function is enabled and disabled via the CBEN pin.
Applications
- Secondary protection for Li-ion battery packs
- Laptop computers
- Power tools
- Portable devices and instruments
- Backup battery systems
