Overview
The CD4017 is a 5-stage Johnson decade counter with 10 decoded outputs and CLOCK, RE, and INH inputs. The Schmitt trigger on the clock input provides pulse shaping, with no restrictions on the rise and fall times of the input clock pulses. When INH is low, the counter increments on the rising edge of the clock; when INH is high, the counting function is disabled. When RE is high, the counter is reset to zero.
