Overview
RY4066 is a complete constant-current/constant-voltage linear charger for single-cell lithium-ion batteries. Its package and minimal external component count make it ideally suited for portable applications. In addition, RY4066 is designed to operate within USB power specifications. The internal MOSFET architecture eliminates the need for external sense resistors and isolation diodes. A thermal feedback function regulates the charge current to limit die temperature during high-power operation or elevated ambient temperatures. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, and the charge current is programmable via a single external resistor. When the final float voltage is reached and the charge current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value, RY4066 automatically terminates the charge cycle. When the input power source (AC adapter or USB supply) is removed, RY4066 automatically enters a low-current state, reducing battery drain to below 2µA. RY4066 can be placed in shutdown mode, reducing supply current to 25µA. Additional features include charge current monitoring, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge, and a status pin for indicating charge termination and input voltage presence.
