SP485EEN-L/TR

SP485EEN-L/TR is an RS-485 transceiver powered by a 4.5V~5.5V supply, featuring bus-port ESD protection up to 15kV HBM, a bus fault voltage range of ±15V, half-duplex, low-power operation, and full compliance with TIA/EIA-485 standard requirements. The transceiver integrates one driver and one receiver, both of which can be independently enabled or disabled. When both are disabled, the driver and receiver outputs enter a high-impedance state. SP485EEN-L/TR supports 1/8 unit load, allowing up to 256 SP485EEN-L/TR transceivers to be connected on the same communication bus, enabling error-free data transmission at up to 10Mbps. It operates at 3.3V and provides failsafe, current-limiting protection, and overvoltage protection functions.

Applications

• Bus networking: The SP485EEN-L/TR RS485 transceiver is designed for bidirectional data communication on multipoint bus transmission lines, and can also be used as a line repeater for cables longer than 4000 feet. To minimize reflections, the transmission line should be terminated at both ends with its characteristic impedance, and stub lengths beyond the main trunk should be kept as short as possible
• Daisy-chain networking: Also known as daisy-chain topology, this is the standard and recommended RS485 bus wiring topology endorsed by organizations such as TIA. The wiring method connects the master device and multiple slave devices in a hand-in-hand chain with no stubs. This topology offers advantages such as minimal signal reflections and high communication reliability
• Bus port protection: In harsh environments, RS485 communication ports typically require additional protection measures including ESD protection, lightning surge protection, and even safeguards against 380V mains voltage ingress, to prevent damage to smart meters and industrial control hosts
