Overview
TP4100/TP4101/TP4102 is a complete single-cell Li-ion battery charge management and discharge protection IC, featuring an industry-first 5V power supply reverse polarity protection (requires a 0.3Ω resistor) and battery reverse polarity protection, compatible with charging currents from 3mA to 1000mA. It employs constant-current/constant-voltage linear control, and the thin DFN and TSOT packages with minimal external component count make it an ideal choice for portable applications. Thanks to the internal PMOSFET architecture combined with anti-reverse charging circuitry, no external sense resistors or isolation diodes are required. Thermal feedback automatically adjusts the charging current to limit junction temperature during high-power operation or elevated ambient temperature conditions. The IC features power supply voltage adaptive capability, enabling direct power input from USB or solar sources. The full-charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, while the charging current can be externally set via a single resistor. When the battery reaches 4.2V, the charging current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value and TP4100 automatically terminates charging. The discharge management of TP4100 includes under-voltage protection, overcharge protection, output short-circuit protection, output overcurrent protection, over-temperature protection, and auto-recovery with delay after each protection event. Additional features include a charge current monitor, under-voltage lockout, automatic recharge, and two pins for charge status indication (TP4101 has one charge status indication pin). TP4100 is available in an 8-pin DFN 3×3 package with a charging current range of 3mA–1000mA. TP4101 is available in a 6-pin TSOT23 package with a charging current range of 3mA–600mA. TP4102 is available in an 8-pin DFN 2×2 package with a charging current range of 3mA–1000mA.
