Overview
WSP4056 is a complete single-cell lithium-ion battery charger with constant-current/constant-voltage linear charging topology. The SOP8/MSOP package with bottom heat pad and minimal external component count make the WSP4056 an ideal choice for portable applications. The WSP4056 is compatible with both USB power sources and adapter power supplies. The internal PMOSFET architecture combined with reverse-charge protection eliminates the need for an external isolation diode. Thermal feedback automatically adjusts the charge current to limit die temperature during high-power operation or elevated ambient temperature conditions. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, while the charge current can be externally set via a single resistor. When the charge current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value after reaching the final float voltage, the WSP4056 automatically terminates the charge cycle. When the input voltage (AC adapter or USB power) is removed, the WSP4056 automatically enters a low-current state, reducing battery leakage current to below 2uA. The WSP4056 can also be placed in shutdown mode when power is present, reducing supply current to 55uA. Additional features of the WSP4056 include battery temperature monitoring, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge, and two LED status pins for indicating charge and end-of-charge states.
