Overview
The 9017R-MS is a complete constant-current/constant-voltage linear charger IC for single-cell lithium-ion batteries. Its SOT package and minimal external component count make it ideally suited for portable applications. The IC is designed to operate within USB power specifications. The internal MOSFET architecture eliminates the need for external sense resistors and blocking diodes. A thermal feedback function regulates the charge current to limit the die temperature during high-power operation or elevated ambient temperature conditions. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, and the charge current is programmable via a single external resistor. When the charge current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value after the final float voltage is reached, the IC automatically terminates the charge cycle. When the input voltage is removed, the IC automatically enters a low-current state, reducing battery leakage current to below 2μA. The IC can also be placed in shutdown mode, reducing supply current to 25μA. Additional features include a charge current monitor, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge, and a status pin indicating charge termination and input voltage presence.
