Overview
4056A is a complete single-cell lithium-ion battery charger featuring constant-current/constant-voltage linear charging, with battery polarity reversal protection and 5V input power supply polarity reversal protection. The ESOP8 package with an exposed thermal pad on the bottom, combined with a minimal external component count, makes the 4056A an ideal choice for portable applications. The 4056A is compatible with both USB power sources and adapter power supplies. It employs an internal PMOSFET architecture with anti-backflow circuitry, eliminating the need for an external isolation diode. Thermal feedback adaptively regulates the charge current to limit the die temperature during high-power operation or elevated ambient temperature conditions. The full-charge cutoff voltage is selectable between two levels: 4.2V and 4.35V. The charge current can be programmed externally via a single resistor. When the charge current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value after the final float voltage is reached, the 4056A automatically terminates the charge cycle. When the input voltage is removed, the 4056A automatically enters a low-current state, reducing battery leakage current to below 0.2μA. Additional features of the 4056A include power supply adaptive control, battery temperature monitoring, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge, and two LED status pins for indicating charging and charge completion states.
