Overview
TC4056A/D is a complete single-cell lithium-ion battery constant-current/constant-voltage linear charger. Its minimal external component requirements make it ideal for portable applications. The device is compatible with both USB power supply and adapter power operation. The internal PMOSFET architecture and anti-reverse-charge circuitry eliminate the need for external isolation diodes. A thermal feedback mechanism automatically adjusts the charge current to limit the die temperature during high-power operation or high-ambient-temperature conditions. The charge voltage is fixed at 4.2V, and the charge current is programmable via an external resistor. When the charge current drops to 1/10 of the programmed value after reaching the final float voltage, TC4056A/D automatically terminates the charge cycle. When the input voltage (AC adapter or USB power) is removed, TC4056A/D automatically enters a low-current state, reducing battery drain current to below 2uA. The device can also enter shutdown mode while input power is present, reducing the supply current to below 55uA. Additional features include battery temperature monitoring, undervoltage lockout, automatic recharge, charge status LED indication, and BAT short-circuit protection (reverse battery protection is not supported).
